Any colicky breastfed baby is in danger of being changed over to formula because the mother is wondering ‘why is my baby fussy?’ She’s beginning to suspect it might be her milk causing the colic.
I’d want to offer this advice ‘Please don’t change to formula as that won’t stop the colic, plus your newborn wouldn’t be getting the antibodies you’re providing now in your milk. You’re breastfeeding and doing fine so be thankful for that.’
Formula isn’t a baby colic remedy and isn’t as good. It won’t help with calming a fussy baby. After 6 weeks of breastfeeding my colicky newborn I made this mistake myself years ago and I’d guess thousands of mothers do every day.
While a mother’s breastfeeding it’s very easy and quick to stop baby crying and simply cure colic once and for all. This is the ideal way so mothers need to keep right on breastfeeding while they learn more.
Formula fed babies suffering from colic can receive help as well.
Maybe not as quickly because the treatment has to be worked out, starting with small amounts of the missing nutrient and increasing as necessary.
I truly think there’s only one cause for colic and therefore one cure, which is why hundreds of babies obtained quick relief. The same cause meant the same treatment was effective.
Much is written about ‘colic causes and cures’ but my learning and experience indicate differently.
Colic seems to have a single cause, otherwise why have hundreds of babies supplied with the same nutrient recovered from colic very quickly? Doesn’t it seem to follow that hundreds more babies would get the same benefit?
Why do so many babies have colic? It seems the newborns are depleted of a nutrient or nutrients they need, hence all the pain and crying. Once that’s corrected colic ceases to be a problem.
Colicky babies easily become colic-free, but first the parents are the ones who don’t find it easy because they have to accept that this remedy does work!
God provided the means for mothers to offer their babies the ideal diet. Exactly what baby needs, at the correct temperature and no bottles to sterilise and prepare.
Perfect! Or it should be, so what goes wrong?
